American Hardwood Export Council

Exhibition Booth - International Furniture Fair Singapore 2016

Winner - Best Booth Design Award

The American Hardwood Export Council booth at IFFS 2016 captured a dialogue between tradition and innovation. Drawing on the centuries-old basket weaving practices of Southeast Asia, the design reimagined this craft using slender strips of American Cherry wood veneer. These strips were carefully hand-woven into a basket weave pattern, evoking both the tactile artistry of regional markets and the warmth of natural wood. The woven veneer, set on a metal frame, created both structure and visual unity, highlighting the versatility of the material.

Inside the booth, a curated selection of work from a diverse range of designers and brands was displayed, each piece demonstrating creative uses of American hardwoods. These examples highlighted the adaptability and beauty of the material across various applications—furniture, accessories, and architectural features—while underscoring the spirit of collaboration and innovation that defines the industry. As the booth was illuminated from within, filtered light filled the space with an inviting glow—showcasing not only the unique qualities of American hardwood, but also the international design community’s enthusiasm and creativity in working with this versatile resource.
